Buddy Media has no product left to implement
Buddy Media was combined with Radian6 into Marketing Cloud Social Studio. Salesforce retired those subscriptions on 18 November 2024, and there is no Buddy Media product to migrate onto.
Platform & ArchitectureA brief lands with a familiar shape. Implement Buddy Media, or migrate the brand accounts onto Buddy Media, and send a quote. The year on the brief is not 2012. The people who wrote it still have the name in a contract schedule and in a slide that shows the social stack. They want a partner, a timeline, and a number. There is nowhere for that timeline to land. Buddy Media is not a current product. Pricing an implementation of it is pricing a door that does not open.
Someone will offer to "just stand up the new one under the old name" so procurement can match the purchase order. That offer feels helpful. It writes the retired name back onto a piece of work that has not been chosen, and it hides the fact that the destination is blank. The blank is the point. Fill it only with a decision you source somewhere else, not with this page.
What the name became
Buddy Media was combined with Radian6 into Marketing Cloud Social Studio. Buddy Media was the publishing and engagement side of that story. Radian6 was the listening side. They are not two living products you pick between. They were folded together, and the thing they were folded into had its subscriptions retired. The notice this page cites says: "Salesforce retired the following Marketing Cloud Social Studio subscriptions (“Marketing Cloud Social Studio Products”) on November 18, 2024." In our calendar that date is 18 November 2024. The notice's own wording stays as published. Read the notice for the subscriptions it lists. This page will not invent the SKU list from memory, and a quote should not invent it either.
Retired subscriptions are not a rebrand you can ignore. ExactTarget's tools still run under Marketing Cloud Engagement. Social Studio does not have that kind of sentence on this page. The sentence we have is a retirement. A partner who describes Buddy Media as "now called something in Marketing Cloud" and then names a build has skipped the verb. The verb is retired. After that verb, there is no Buddy Media org to configure, no Social Studio subscription to extend, and no migration onto Buddy Media that a serious person can schedule.
If your login page still resolves, do not treat a redirect, a marketing site, or a dead bookmark as proof of a product. A product you can implement is one a named administrator can open, with your tenant, on a dated screenshot. If they cannot produce that, the implementation line is theatre. Take it off the quote before you compare firms. Comparing theatre is how a number gets into a budget.
Nothing to migrate onto
There is no current Buddy Media product to migrate onto. Say that in the brief, in the first line, so a template response cannot miss it. Migration services need a source and a destination. The source, if you still have files, is files you already hold: an export someone saved, a report someone printed, a spreadsheet a community manager kept. The destination is not Buddy Media, and it is not Social Studio. This page will not name a replacement product. A replacement you have not sourced is a guess with a logo. Guesses do not belong in a statement of work, even as a "recommended option".
That refusal is narrower than it sounds. It does not forbid you, later, from choosing a tool for publishing. It forbids this guide, and any partner leaning on this guide, from pretending the choice has already been made by the retirement. The retirement ended subscriptions. It did not appoint a successor in the sentence we cite. If a bidder's deck names one, ask which notice told them to. If the answer is experience, or what other clients did, that is not a source for your scope. Other clients are not your notice. Take the name off. If you still want a new tool, write a new brief that does not say Buddy Media anywhere in the solution.
Radian6 is the other half of the same retirement, and it has the same date. The listening habit is its own trap, because people talk about history as if history were a login. Read the Radian6 guide before you let one quote promise both a publishing build and a listening archive. One quote that covers both, without an inventory, is two blanks sold as a programme.
What a cost can still be
No price belongs here. Not a day rate for "Social Studio exit", not a percentage of your old contract, not a package called transition. If money is still in question, it is made of four lines, and the lines are about ending and evidence, not about a build.
Scope is what you can prove you hold. Contracts that still mention Buddy Media or Social Studio. Invoices that still charge. Exports on a disk, with a date and a person who can say what the file is. Logins that either work or do not, tested, not assumed. Brand accounts and the question of who owns them at the network, which is a question for the network and for your counsel, not a question this page will answer. Scope is also what you will not pretend to move. You will not move posts into a product that was retired. You will not move them into a product this page does not name.
Licences are whatever you are still paying. The retirement date is not, by itself, proof that a vendor stopped invoicing you, and it is not proof that you stopped paying a reseller. Pull the invoice. If the charge continues, the cost page has a stop-paying action, owned by someone who can talk to the reseller. If the charge has already stopped, the licence line is zero, and the quote should say zero rather than invent a new subscription to fill the hole. A new subscription is a different project. It does not get to hide in the hole.
People are the community manager who knows which exports exist, the procurement owner who can see the invoice, and the person who will tell the business the old dashboards will not be refreshed. Partner hours are optional. Many organisations need a short, sharp inventory more than they need an implementation team. If you hire, hire for the inventory and the stop, and cap it. Do not hire a build team because the brief used the word implementation out of habit. Internal time to find the files is a cost. So is the meeting where someone asks for a number the old tool used to show, and you have to say you will not invent it.
Cutover, in the usual sense, is a switch from one running system to another. You do not have the first running system. Do not book a go-live weekend for Buddy Media. The ending, if you need a date at all, is the date you stop paying and the date you stop telling people the dashboard will return. Write those dates only when the invoice and the expectation are real. A cutover plan that "lands" content in a successor has already broken the rule of this page. Send it back unmarked, except for the sentence that says there is no destination in this quote.
What a partner is for
People will search for the best Buddy Media agency anyway. The search assumes a market. The market for implementing Buddy Media is not a market this page recognises. Do not rank SynconAI. Do not rank a firm that still lists the product as a service. A listing is not a tenant.
The test is whether they can name the current state. There is no current product. The subscriptions named in the retirement notice ended on 18 November 2024. They can name the objects of the work, which are contracts, invoices, exports, and logins, not campaigns and calendars inside a dead studio. They can say what they will not take on. They will not implement Buddy Media. They will not migrate onto Social Studio. They will not recommend a replacement in this statement of work. They will not sign off your legal position on old posts, old consents, or old network terms. That sign-off is not theirs, and it is not this page's.
A consultant who passes will look slightly disappointing to someone who wanted a build. Disappointment is the correct reaction to a retired product. Hire them for a bounded inventory if you cannot do the inventory yourselves. Do not hire them to restore a roadmap. An implementation partner, on this keyword, is a phrase from a time when the product existed. In 2026 the honest partner refuses the phrase and offers the inventory instead. If they cannot refuse the phrase, they have not understood the date.
How to mark the paper
| Line they wrote | What it actually is | What you send back |
|---|---|---|
| Implement Buddy Media | A product that is not current | Delete the line. There is nothing to configure |
| Migrate onto Social Studio | Subscriptions retired on 18 November 2024 | Point at the notice. Remove the destination |
| We recommend this replacement | A product this page has not sourced | Take the name off. Start a separate brief if you truly need a tool |
| Listening history included | The Radian6 half, often asserted without a store | Split it. Do not promise the archive. Read the other guide |
| One number for social transformation | An ending dressed as a build | Inventory, invoices, people, and a stop. No build price |
Write the brief in one paragraph and reuse it. Buddy Media was combined with Radian6 into Marketing Cloud Social Studio. Those subscriptions were retired on 18 November 2024. We are not implementing anything under those names. We want an inventory of contracts, invoices, exports we already hold, and logins that have been tested. We do not want a replacement named in this quote. Price the inventory as scope, licences still being charged, people, and the stop. If your reply contains a build, you have not read the paragraph.
The replies sort themselves. One side asks where the files are. The other side attaches an architecture. Keep the questions. Decline the architecture. You are not behind. You are late only if you are still paying for a subscription that ended, or still promising a dashboard you cannot open. Those are the costs worth a meeting. A new social platform, if you ever want one, waits until this meeting is over, and it does not inherit the Buddy Media brief.
Store the exports you find with a date, a description, and the name of the person who vouches for them. An unmarked file is not a system of record. It is a file. Do not let a later project describe it as "the Buddy Media migration" so that a build can start. The label would be a fiction, and the fiction would be expensive in the way fictions are, which is that nobody can say what done looks like.
The other searches
The project quote is on buddy media implementation cost. That page does not print a figure. Who bought the company is on what happened to buddy media. The connector is on integrating buddy media with Salesforce. Whether to move is on should I migrate from buddy media. The customer fee is on buddy media licence cost. Who to hire is on hiring for buddy media. This page does not rank an agency.
